Water law reform to improve water security for vulnerable people in Africa (SELARE ) - Phase 2
"The main research objective is the transformation of permit systems to enhance regulatory efficiency and protect the most vulnerable in Kenya, South Africa and Uganda. As identified in the first phase of this project, two priority research questions are addressed: • How to achieve more effective and efficient water abstraction regulation and revenue generation, comparing revenue collection from small-scale users vis-à-vis large-scale users? • How to decolonize permit systems, recognize customary or local water law, and transform permit systems to ensure legal protection of the most vulnerable? The project will be implemented through the science-practitioner partnership between the water authorities and national and international researchers that was established in the first phase of this project."
